Celebrating Black stories, creators and communities in film, gaming, anime, art and more.
The Black Nerds began while I was working at a local comic book café, where I started a monthly anime screening series to build something more meaningful for our community. Through screenings, conversations, and art exhibitions, it grew into a cultural hub and eventually into a cultural programming and media collective rooted in Black nerd culture.
Today, The Black Nerds curates screenings, community events, and pop culture experiences across film, gaming, anime, and comics. We run a monthly film club and programming series at The Revue Cinema, and I served as Creative Lead and Programmer for the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. Our work also spans major conventions including Fan Expo, Anime North, Toronto Comicon, and the Toronto Game Expo. We build spaces where Black nerds can connect, create, and see themselves reflected in the cultures they love.
